The woman was young, but her eyes were ancient. She looked no older than twenty, but her eyes. She smiled softly at them as she walked around the room, trailing her fingers along the backs of the couches, the spines of the books. Their whole group stood and watched her, waiting for the answers they'd searched so long for.
"I was a god, once." Tomas snorted, yet she didn't seem concerned. "You don't believe in gods. That's quite alright. I don't either. There have been none of my kind for millenia. A long time ago, this place was young, and I was radiant with my power. I created this world to my fancy, made the inhabitants how I saw fit. I created a grand palace, and I adorned it with all the finery it could hold. I set the laws of this world, its nature, in place, and I sat upon my gilded throne and watched the world grow. I sat for so long that I could no longer see my world. I became a living statue, and for years the palace grew silent and cold with my neglect. When at last I did awake, my realm had changed. I came down from my throne, and walked amongst my subjects, in a guise of mortalhood. I met a man, in the city. A brilliant man. A mortal, man. I fell in love with him, for he was nothing of my creation. I had left them for too long, and they became their own beings. Beings I didn't understand anymore, that I didn't know. That mystique captivated me. I didn't even notice my godhood leaking away until I felt the stirrings of an infant inside me. By that time I was so nearly mortal that the child would have none of my abilities. I went back to my palace, instructed my daughters to carry on in my stead, and returned to him.
For a period I was happy, content with my mortality. Until my husband and my son were taken from me. I had forgotten our fragility until I looked upon their corpses. I had tried to regain my godhood, to save them. All I managed to do was regain my immortality. I have remained as thus ever since. I have sat, and listened, and learned. I know what you seek, and I have your answers." Klara looked at her, at this double of Isaiah, and wondered if the same thing had happened to the rest of her fragments. Had they all been gods? Found their own worlds to create?
"Do you know how you came to be? Do you remember Isaiah?" The woman-goddess- smiled at her.
"I am not so old as to forget my discussions with Entirety. We spoke often of Before, although we could not get the others to cooperate with our efforts to reunite." she smiled and reached out, stroking Klara's cheek. "I have not thought of that time for a very long time. Yet, you seem to know my mother." At the few odd looks from Yeveh and Mikael,"we refer to Isaiah as our mother, because we were born of her. I wonder how it is that you know her. You are not gods, you are children. Young, still. How do you know Isaiah?" Yeveh answered her.
"Time in our universe moves slower than yours. Isaiah isn't dead. She's in a coma, in our world. She's only been alseep for a year."  Her eyes widened.
"A year? This universe has been born and grown, given life and evolved, and for mother only a year has passed in sleep. Astounding."  Lily, who had been hiding toward the back, stepped forward.
"Entirety said that none of her kin remembered her any longer. If you remember, why don't you see her anymore?" The woman's soft smile faded.
"I have not been to see her since I sat on my throne. It was she, my sister, who roused me from my sleep, to counsel with her once more. I have been unable to traverse the realms since the loss of my godhood. I have been trapped in the world I created. I am unable to even enter my own hallowed hall. I cannot see my sister, or my daughters, children of the sun and moon, of the earth and sky. It is a curse that I remain. Others of my kind have died and been reborn many times since renouncing themselves, but I live on with no reprieve of sweet amnesia to dull my longing. I know that you seek to revive my mother, and I will gladly accompany you. Your long journey in my world will not be in vain." Lily looked conflicted.
"But what about your daughters? If they're still alive- how can you just leave them?"
"My daughters have not needed me for a thousand lifetimes. I see them in my dreams, though not often. They know from whence they come, and they are content that I should rejoin my mother when the time comes. For I have always known that the time would come that I should leave one home to return to another. We are at peace, dearest Lily. There is no need to bother yourself over such things." Lily returned the smile she was given. This woman reminded her of Isaiah's soft wisdom.
"You seem to know our names, but what do we call you? Do you have a name like Entirety's, or something more like ours?" She laughed at the question.
"You may call me Mylla. It has been some time since I recalled what Fragment I was. Only Entirety recalls hers, at this point, I think. If even myself has forgotten I doubt my sisters have remembered theirs."
So this is just the beginning of a scene that popped into my head the other day, and I'm not really sure what precedes it or what follows. Hopefully I'll figure it out.
